Year 2

Spring Term in Year 2

The inspirational texts for this term will inspire our learning across the curriculum

We are looking forward to exploring our Spring Bookshelf and learning how the characters in the stories inspire bravery, cultivate curiosity, and celebrate the virtues that shape a better world. The books chosen highlight the importance of integrity and kindness, encouraging our children to act with honesty and empathy in every situation. They also illustrate the strength that comes from citizenship, both in standing up for what’s right and in fostering a sense of community. Through tales of courage and gratitude, these books remind us that even the smallest acts of goodness can spark meaningful change, and that by embracing these values, we all have the potential to make a difference.

Within our English learning, we will continue to develop our story writing skills by trying to include elaborate setting and character descriptions as well as ensuring we use senses adjectives and adverbials of time in our writing. We will continue to practise writing from different point of view, for example writing diary entries, letters and instructions. Near the end of the Spring term, we will be exploring Poetry, especially alternative free verse poems.

In science in the Autumn term, the children have been learning about different types of animals and their habitats. In Spring, the children will begin the topic of ‘Plants’ with an exciting investigation to kick things off.

In maths, we will begin to learn about money, this includes the name of different coins and how to give change. We will also start to learn our times tables and the children can begin to utilise Times Tables Rockstars App!
