Year 4

Welcome to Autumn Term in Year 4

We are looking forward to exploring our Autumn Bookshelf and discovering stories that inspire imagination, resilience and curiosity. The carefully selected tales will encourage children to develop empathy, celebrate diversity, and recognise the importance of respect, responsibility and perseverance. Through exciting adventures and memorable characters, children will see how kindness, honesty and courage can help us to overcome challenges and make a positive difference to the world around us.

Our aim is for your children to become confident, independent learners who foster a love of reading, embrace new challenges and continue to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Autumn Bookshelf

During the Autumn Term in Year 4, we will read a variety of inspirational and carefully selected texts. We will begin by exploring Paddington, using the story to support our narrative writing through retelling, diary entries and character descriptions. As we read Leaf, we will reflect on themes of belonging and empathy whilst developing our non-chronological report and instructional writing. Linking with our History learning on Ancient Greece, we will delve into Greek Myths to inspire exciting narratives and biographies. We will also enjoy Michael Rosen’s A to Z poetry, experimenting with similes, metaphors, rhyme and wordplay to create our own imaginative poems. Finally, we will read The Accidental Prime Minister to develop our understanding of persuasive writing, using the text to write balanced arguments and formal letters.
